Musical Director

Robin W. Morgan LRAM; ARCM; FTCL

Robin holds conducting, teaching and performing diplomas.

His formative years were as a bandsmen in the Salvation Army where he gained a reputation as a Euphonium Soloist that was continued when he joined the Royal Air Force Music Services. Robin was awarded the Boosey and Hawkes Cup for his playing abilities, and won the Worshipful Company of Musicians Medal as the most outstanding pupil of that year (as he states….a long time ago!!!)

Robin Morgan

On leaving the RAF after some twelve years service, Robin continued brass band activities as a Bandmaster in the Salvation Army, a position held for a number of years until the wider sphere of contesting bands beckoned in 1981.

He has taken some eight contesting bands through these years and five of these bands have attained promotion, two of them into the Championship section.

On moving North from Bristol in May 2001 (where he had been with the Bristol based Bendix Band) he played Euphonium with Pennine Brass in Huddersfield and also doubled as the Assistant Conductor working with Ian Porthouse.

He came to Knottingley Silver in July 2007 as guest conductor whilst the band auditioned for a new Musical Director. The band persuaded him to take on that role in October which he was pleased to do, and is looking forward to the challenges that will inevitably happen when new conductors take over.
